Dr. Dimitris Papadopoulos is an Assistant Professor of Developmental Psychology in Early Childhood in the Department of Early Childhood Education and Care. At the undergraduate level, he has taught courses in Developmental Psychology and Psychopathology at the University of Crete (Department of Psychology) and the University of Ioannina (Department of Psychology). He has taught postgraduate courses in the “MSc School Psychology” program at Aegean College which operates in collaboration with Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) in the United Kingdom. Also, he conducts a post-doctoral research on Developmental Psychopathology at the University of Western Attica, Department of Social Work.
His research and scientific interests focus on endogenous and exogenous factors that influence typical and atypical cognitive/emotional development and mental health of young children, on the development of gifted children/high-ability children, and on the development of programs for special populations, such as children with autism spectrum disorder and their families. He has published articles in peer reviewed international scientific journals and has presented his research in international scientific conferences.
He completed two years of clinical training in developmental and neuropsychological evaluation of children and adolescents at Eginitio Hospital. He holds a certificate in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). In addition, he has completed two years of further training in Psychoanalysis at the Hellenic Psychoanalytic Society (EPSE), and is an educational member of the Hellenic Society of Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.
He has worked in public and private mental health and special education institutes for children and adolescents for over fifteen years.
